Movies We’d Like to See Get a 3-D Upgrade

As James Cameron’s billion-dollar baby Avatar rolls toward the top of the all-time box office charts, Hollywood is looking to retool movies like Star Wars, “retrofitting” them into 3-D.

Naa, don't like 3D.  Rather watch it normally, without the stupid glasses.

How about a list of movies we'd like to see 'down-graded' to 2-D?

Oh - hang on - there aren't any.  That's because 3-D movies are just gimmicks with no enduring appeal.

I'd agree with that, Gill, I've never found 3D to be particularly useful or impressive.

Hang on, have any of you see 3D in the last few years? They now use polarizing glasses and it is much more spectacular. Its pretty impressive.

I saw Journey to the Centre of the Earth on Bluray 3D, but with the old red / green glasses, and wasn't that impressed.

Have a look at an Imax 3D cinema if you get chance and you will change your mind. I saw a film of undersea stuff at the one in Glasgow a couple of years back and you soon forget that you are wearing those polarised glasses.

You don't even need to go to an IMAX anymore, most of the big cinema complexes have converted one of their screens to it. Fantastic really.

I don't really care about how a movie is presented.  I'd prefer to watch any movie with a good story, good acting and taut direction on my iPod rather than watch a poor movie in an iMax with all the latest techno-wizardry.

Oh, I definitely think that a good audio / visual experience can make an average movie into a more immersive experience.

I see your point, but surely it can just add to it. I personally thought Avatar had a weak story but the rendering / 3D effects was amazing.

So we end up admiring the technology and forgetting the content completely. Something not quite right there. ;)

Not completely. You can't polish a turd, but sometimes the technology can enhance the experience.
