Rescuers in New Zealand managed to coax 33 beached whales back out into deep waters Sunday, but another 15 of the pod died, a conservation official said.

It always seems so sad when this happens. I wonder why I feel such an affinity with whales and dolphins?

not sure - and you aren't the only one - probably cause they look intelligent? or all those soppy documentaries?

I really don't know, it seems very primal. Maybe it's that they're mammals, maybe it's just that their such magnificent animals.
