FA Trophy 3rd Round:

Chorley 2 - 2 Tamworth (aet)  Att. 1393

Tamworth won 6-5 on penalties after nine penalties each.

Went down after ten minutes, only to equalize on 25.  Laid siege to the Tamworth goal for the next 20 minutes, but couldn't find the net.  Went 2-1 down on the hour, only to equalize in injury time.  Should have had a penalty in the dying seconds for a clear handball that everyone in the ground saw, except for the referee.

Battered them in injury time, particularly the second half - a half of goalmouth scrambles, but Tamworth survived.  I don't watch penalties, so left at the final whistle, only to find we had lost in the shoot out after being in front all the way through it until the death.

Season defining match today against Skelmersdale United, who have topped the table for most of the season with Chorley in second, albeit with games in hand.  Started today four points behind with four games in hand.

Chorley 4 - 1 Skelmersdale United  Att. 1,968

Now one point behind with four games in hand and a better goal difference of 16. I know that it's only January and strange things can happen in football but, barring a catastrophe, today's result should really have won us the league and automatic promotion.

Blyth Spartans 3 - 1 Chorley

Some things are just meant NOT to happen and Chorley topping this league is one of them!  With Skelmersdale having no match today, this was our chance, but in spite of going in front on twenty minutes and (apparently) dominating the match, two goals in two minutes from the home team right on half time left us in second spot, one point behind with three games in hand.  >:(

With Skelmersdale United having no game due to a waterlogged pitch, this was yet another chance for us to overtake them at the top of the league.  Thankfully, there were no mistakes this time - a routine win in awful conditions.

Chorley 3 - 0 Stamford.
