Chorley 0 - 0 Stocksbridge Park Steels.

Well, either that or I've just had a terrible nightmare.  How on earth we didn't score (at the very least) six is beyond my comprehension.  Hit the woodwork four times when it looked easier to score. I stopped counting at about eight the number of times Stocksbridge defenders cleared goal-bound efforts with their goalkeeper beaten.  Could have had three penalties and one was a nailed-on penalty that everybody saw except the officials and on the two occasions the ball did go into the net the linesman gave offside when the culprit would have had to have moved faster than Usain Bolt to have got into an offside position when the ball was played.

Unbelievable!.   :o

As Promised  :P

Quote
Leiston moved up into second place after an entertaining clash against fellow play off hopefuls Brentwood Town. The Blues were without Boardley, Goldfinch, Heath and Stone and lost Neil Calver in the warm up through illness. After both sets of teams and supporters impeccably respected the two minute silence, the home side were first on the attack with Smy testing Elliott inside the first minute. The visitors responded two minutes later with Osei scooping a shot wide from the edge of the box. Play switched to the other end and M Brothers scuffed shot found its way to Ottley-Gooch whose cheeky back heel was collected by Elliott on his line. The opening quarter was frantic and M Brothers raced onto Hammond’s pass but his early strike bounced wide of the target. Butterworth was the first into Referee McIntrye’s book for a foul on Smy before a quartet of fantastic blocks (two in either box) restricted both sides. Defences were clearly on top but Brentwood wasted their best chance on 36 minutes. Defending a Leiston corner they broke quickly with Osei releasing Edgar but as he bore down on goal wildly blazed over. As the half closed Smy hit a scorching shot that just cleared the bar and then great play by Ottley-Gooch set up M Brothers inside the box but Elliott was quickly off his line to block. There was still time for Head to deny Osei a goal with a timely tackle with Johnson quickly onto the loose ball.

After the tightness of the first half the second period needed just four minutes to produce a goal and it went to the Essex side. Blackburn won possession in midfield and his intended pass looked to be intercepted by Head but he slipped at the crucial moment allowing Green a clear run on goal and he slid his shot underneath Johnson. Leiston looked to respond but for a few minutes they were on the back foot as the goal lifted the visitors. But just after the hour Leiston equalised with a sensational goal. Elliott denied Smy with a smart save low to his left and from the resulting corner to the far post Driver headed across face with Stokes clearance falling to the edge of the box where M Brothers hit an unstoppable rasping drive high into to the top left hand corner. Five minutes later M Brothers went from hero to villain with a gaping miss in front of an open goal after P Brothers and Ottley-Gooch had carved open the visitors. P Brothers then flashed a shot just wide as Leiston sensed another goal. With eighteen minutes remaining the second Leiston goal did arrive even if slightly fortuitous. P Brothers cross caused confusion in the box and Hammond’s shot deflected into the path of Ottley-Gooch who skipped past Stokes from around eight yards but his deflected, scuffed shot spun into the net past the wrong footed Elliott. A spate of bookings and substitutions in the final quarter took the sting out of the game with no clear chances as Leiston held on to claim all the points.

An excellent game between two evenly matched sides. After going behind Leiston roared back and deserved the win for the last thirty minutes alone. It’s always important to beat your rivals and a great win after the late drama of midweek.

Leiston: Johnson, Saker (Henry 90 mins), Wardley, Head, Jefford, Hammond, M Brothers (Leitao 83 mins), Driver, Smy, Ottley-Gooch, P Brothers. Subs not used: Munson and Norfolk

Brentwood Town:Elliott, Doyle, Llewellyn, Mason, Stokes, O'Rawe, Butterworth (Love 71 mins), Blackburn (Croll 81 mins), Green, Osei (Mathurine 82 mins), Edgar. Subs not used: Bigg and Blewitt.

Cracknell Properties Man of the Match: Joe Jefford
