Nice run out yesterday against Braintree town who are in the conference south ..leiston won by 2 - 0 .......... totaly outclassed them, I know it's only a friendly but there manager was livid lol.
The Blues welcomed back keeper Shaun Philips back at the club for another spell in goal on loan from League One Colchester United & began the game attacking the Estate End in front of a decent crowd for the seasons opener. However, despite the emphatic scoreline it was the actually the visitors who started the brighter with the lively Ibemere a threat early on wide on the right, however Leiston took the lead on 9 minutes with their first real move of note. Luke Hammond's superb pass released Joe Francis who ran into acres of space & finished calmly past Walker. To be fair the visitors deservedly drew level on 26 minutes & Tommy Whitnell's smart finish was no more than their busy play deserved, but Leiston came back into game and as the first half drew to a close Ottley-Gooch hit the bar for Leiston with a glancing header from Francis' corner. Neither side made any changes at half time with the game evenly balanced at one apiece, but it was the home side who came out after the break with far more intent & looked threatening throughout and put 3 unanswered goals past Walker in the Crays goal. On 54 minutes Craig Parkers smart finish from inside the box, after Boardleys quck throw in put the Blues 2-1 up, then on 72 minutes an acrobatic volley from captain David Head from inside the area put clear daylight between the two sides & the win was sealed with 5 minutes remaining with a clinical breakaway goal from Gareth Heath, Francis released Parker who strode forward & deftly played in last years leading scorer who confidently dispatched the ball across Walker & into the corner. It was a fine goal that sealed an excellent opening day for the Blues & a fully deserved win based on their second half performance.
