yeah I'm not sure either... it discovered a magnetar recent..  and I haven't seen anything in the arxiv recently with chandra and in the solar neighbourhood.

You might well ask why astronomers have never detected this object before. In fact they did. G1.9 was first identified as a "supernova remnant" in 1984 by Dave Green of the University of Cambridge and later studied in greater detail with NRAO's Very Large Array radio telescope in 1985. Because it was unusually small for a supernova it was thought to be young -- less than about 1000 years old.

I think supernova remnant is more reasonable, in fact Dave was my PhD examiner... and we work on some GMRT observations.

That would placate both the Planet X and Nemesis followers.  But I'm not sure why it would be radiating x-rays.

if it has a corona, so not a planet, then yes it would be emitting X-rays. Rather weak but if close then possibly detectable.
