Definitely turn it off first Michelle. You will see a diagram of the inside of your computer in the handbook and the RAM will be labelled. Here is a video of how to change RAM but it will help you to reseat it too.

lots of good instructional vids around. Still I'd prefer a list and diagrams at times.
