The Pitmen Painters
« on: August 05, 2011, 01:10 »
We saw the play, "The Pitmen Painters" tonight in Malvern.  What a treat!  It's based on a true story about a group of miners in the 1930s who attend evening classes to broaden their horizons.  One night they hire a tutor to tell them what art is and find they can't relate to his explanations, so they pick up paintbrushes themselves.

It's hard to give many more details without compromising the story, but if you get a chance to see this play then do so.  There's talk of it transferring to the West End this autumn.

Thanks Gill - we tend to go to the theatre on a Thursday afternoon when there are reductions for OAP's.   ;D

No problems staying awake through this play, Rik - it's very funny.  My favourite was when a posh lady is looking at a painting of some flowers and asks, "Are they peonies?".  The painter replies, "Nah, I canna dee horses."
