Just updated my main computer so it's relearn time. So far everything looks good including QuickBooks which was my main concern. Watch this space.

So let me get this clear in my head Den, you've upgraded and apart from it looking a bit different, everything works just the same as before?

YES, it seems very easy to get one's head around and is much faster. Some of the thing I liked about W8.1 have gone and I'm sure W7 fans will love the start menu.

By downloading the app  http://windows.microsoft.com/en-gb/windows-10/media-creation-tool-install?ocid=ms_wol_win10  it is so simple to install, the only snag I had was it uninstalls the language pack in the 64bt version and then failed to start when requested. The cure for this was to start and press escape for basic mode then carry out the repair from there. It then carried on upgrading and completed with no further ado. This only happened on the 64bt version and not on either of my 32bt machines.

Well, I've upgraded my Windows 8.1 laptop.   Can't really see much to get excited about.  The privacy settings need taming, though, unless you want M$ to track your every mouse click.   ':|

One thing  I found thats nice in windows 10
I  completely crashed mine and wiped the drive and lost the product key

On full reinstall it applied the product key on its own
So evidently the key is stored on line or in updates

Didn't have a hidden partition

Was trying for a dual boot and accidentally overwrote the entire partition

I'm noticing a significantly slower startup with Windows 10, compared to Windows 8.1.  My laptop used to reach the login screen within about 20 seconds, now it's taking nearly 2 minutes.  I wonder if this is because I did an upgrade, rather than a clean install, or whether this will improve as Win10 beds in?

You must have some programs kicking in on start up to take that long. Mine is running in about 20 secs and overall is much faster than 8 or 7.

Same programs as it was before, Den.  It seems to be getting quicker now, so I guess it could still be applying updates on boot up.

The only problem I seem to have is that using Office 2010 (Outlook) I can receive emails but not send them. At first I thought it was BTs fault but I can send emails with Microsoft's Mail so I need to search deeper, any thoughts would be welcome.

first thing check the firewall to see if its blocking smtp
Second recheck smtp settings
Its a setting somewhere that allows the send is being blocked
Maybe Bitdefender

Glenn posted this on Idnetter and it worked fine

This works.

Click on the search icon, search on cmd when you find the application (Command Prompt) run as administrator (i.e. right click it and click run as administrator). You will then see a rectangular black window appear with folder> then type in sfc/scannow and sit back and wait (takes a while to run).

When finished type in exit. Then close outlook, restart and problem solve. Seems to have solved the problem for a number of people on the other thread too.

If I put my computer to sleep and then awake it the error window comes up and says    E:\ The directory name is invalid.  if I then click on OK it goes away.
