Quite possibly!  Some of the one star reviews are slightly worrying though, however, there are a lot more positive reviews than negative ones.  It could just do nicely as a backup phone.   :)

I don't send that many texts Dave but thanks very much for the whatsapp tip.  Presumably using an app must use up data though?

While you are in the UK, you would presumably be on a data plan, so yes, it would use a small amount of data if you are out.  Otherwise, it would use your WiFi connection.  You do need to have a data allowance, as otherwise, you will be quite limited as to use while away from your WiFi.  But it needn't be huge.  I am on my phone quite a lot each day, and I never exceed 1Gb of data per month, even though I have unlimited data with my legacy O2 contract.

So if I'm at home it will pick up my WiFi signal or any other friendly WiFi signal I might have?  That has removed a lot of worries because my current phone cannot connect to WiFi.  If I transfer my mobile number to the new phone, will I still have to enter all my contacts to the new phone?  I've always used the same simcard but it's PAYG and not really suitable for a Smart phone.  I'm certain to be a light user outside my home so I am thinking of a 500Mb allowance at £7.50 a month.

I think you will need a new SIM card, but, depending on what your old phone is, transferring of contacts should be fairly simple, as there are several methods to do so, either by syncing with Outlook / Outlook Express, sending by bluetooth, or just sending as contact cards, to name a few.

Yes, while you're at home, it will connect to your home WiFi, so should not use any mobile data.  There will also be settings to ensure that apps, and the phone itself, only update using WiFi, which it would be wise to enable if you have a smallish mobile data cap.  It's all manageable!  :)

It's arriving tomorrow which is a far cry from the two months forecast this time yesterday!   ::)  I noticed the one star reviews but it still comes out with 4.5 stars after 1500 reviews so that is statistically very favourable.  My Kodi is also arriving tomorrow so I will be awash with indecipherable tech.     I may have to lie down in a darkened room.

It should connect automatically to any "known" wifi, but check the little icon initially to make sure, the little expanding "wave" symbol for wifi or a little 3g/4g symbol if data.
Transferring your number is relatively simple. When you have your new sim, you text the word swap from your old one to a five digit number (sorry can't remember what it is). They (Tesco) reply and tell you to insert the new sim and what to do next. Whole process takes about half an hour.
As for contacts I managed to get my iphone ones to my android phone by exporting the contacts as a single file, in my case to a gmail address, then importing them on my new phone from the e-mail. Again I can't remember the devil in the detail but all the info came from Dr Google.
I get through about 300 - 400 mb per month of data, if you don't watch loads of online videos on the go you won't get anywhere near your 500 mb.

That's very useful Dave.  I'll send off for a new Tesco sim card tomorrow.

Clive I believe that number i mentioned is 23424, so text the word SWAP to that number from old sim then follow their instructions.
You may want to confirm with them that they still do it in the same way as last time I did it was around a year ago.

Brilliant!  Hasn't turned up yet but I'm sure it will.

Tesco mobile are generally quite good but I had a few issues with them when my daughters phone was stolen. The first replacement sim didn't arrive, the second was the wrong size, then they cut off my phone by mistake. It was about two weeks after the incident that we finally both had working phones.
If it hasn't arrived tomorrow i'd get on to them.

It might even be the right size
Actually you're usually OK as the sim is often multi size, you just break out the size you want, in my case they sent one size.
