Which part of post #70?  When you connect the USB, if the phone is unlocked, it should ask if you want to allow file transfers.  If not, look in the settings under USB and see if there's something there.

Transfer of media files comes up and I can click on music. However only a handful of music files are visible and some are not ones I want anyway.  I'm supposed to be able to drag and drop but I have to do each file individually.  It's not as you have indicated.     The phone's operating system is Windows 3.1

Oh, I didn't know you were transferring from one phone to another.  My suggestion was referring to connecting the new phone to the computer on which your music is stored.

Clive it would be much simpler and quicker to use a pc as an intermediate step between the two phones. Phone to phone is guaranteed to cause problems (well it always does for me).

No it's laptop to phone - I was joking about Win 3.1.  The phone is Android and the laptop Win 10.  Sorry to be confusing.

Yes to both questions.  I have my iPod folder on the Desktop for easy access and I copied it and dropped it into the folder on the phone.  It's a big file and took a few minutes to transfer.  But when I open the music app on the phone it seems to be empty.  I'm obviously doing something wrong.

Have you restarted the phone since moving the files?  Otherwise, there may be a setting in the Music app to make it look on the SD card.  Also, check that there is no ".nomedia" file in the Music folder you have transferred to.

Also, check that the media files are indeed on the SD card, and in a folder named "Music".

I've checked that the SD card has been recognised by the phone and it has.  I have more than 70Gb free with the 64Gb card plus 16Gb phone memory.  I cannot find the MP3s anywhere on the phone and I now have three music apps downloaded.  The SD card has just 300Mb loaded to it which is probably the directory.  What I did was to dump the iTunes file into the phone and it seemed to accept it.  The music folder seems empty.  I have Music, Music Player, Play Music and Apple Music installed and can't see my music library in any of them.  Obviously I only intend to keep one of these.  When you say "restart the phone" do you mean re-boot?  It turns off by itself after 10 minutes.

Yes, reboot, ie, power off and on again.  When it turns off after 10 minutes, that's only going into sleep mode.

I can only guess that the media files have ended up in the wrong folder, or that the settings on the phone need changing.  Have you opened the phone in My Computer (with File Transfers enabled)?  You should be able to see the SD card, and dig down to see the Music folder.  If you find that, and the music files are all present and correct, then you may need to go to the settings in whichever music player you have chosen (I recommend Shuttle+ or Poweramp), and select the folder which holds the MP3 files.  You will only need to do this once, but sometimes apps are set to default settings, and as the apps are the same for all Android phones, some may need tweaking for whichever phone you have.  That said, most would look for music files on the SD card, so it seems a bit odd that they cannot be found.
