Problem with Win98 Windows Explorer
« on: June 13, 2003, 08:29 »
In Windows Explorer, there are options to view in terms of Large Icons, Small Icons, List and Details. When I tick the Details view, I get a blank screen. This problem happens all of a sudden and I am not sure what is the cause. Please help. Thks.

Hi CFH :welcome:

When you display Detail view are the column headings visible?

If not, it may be that the columns have been shrunk down to zero size. If you hover the mouse cursor over the top left hand corner where the column headings should be, the cursor should change to the column sizing icon. Holding down the mouse button and dragging to the right should expand one of the columns. You will need to repeat this for all of the missing columns.

Hope this helps :)

@CFH
Do a virus check on your PC, if the problem persist you have two choices reinstall windows or continue with the problem, if nothing else is wrong leave it alone you don't need to use "Details" that often

Hi Adept,

You are right. The columns has been shrunk to zero size. Thanks for the advice.

It's amazing how many problems, which initially seem serious, come down to something really simple.

Not so long ago, my sister (who lives five minutes away) phoned me at 1.30 in the morning, panic stricken, because she had turned on her PC and it was "making funny noises".  Screwdriver in hand, I walked round to her house expecting to find that a card or memory chip had come out of its slot, only to discover that the "funny noises" were the  result of a  pile of freshly ironed clothes lying on top of the keyboard!
