It totally nuked my Asus laptop which now refuses to boot up.  I only threw out the rescue disks a week or so previously.  Good timing eh?

Honestly, they really should be facing a major litigation suit, with the amount of damage they have caused to people's computers.

The only thing I used it for was to let the grandchildren play games.  Hence my cavalier attitude with the rescue disks.

I'm not going to do it.  Bl00dy pooter might have a mind of its own but I'm not going to do it.

Be resolute Gill!  I've delayed my PC Specialist machine as I don't want to lose that one too.

Well, my laptop appears to be playing hard to get.  I switched it on at 4pm this afternoon, with the intention of leaving it on all evening in case it wanted to download anything, so that it might actually be ready to use when I wanted to, but when I checked it at 8pm, the WiFi had not connected, so it had just sat there doing nothing but consume electricity for 4 hours.

That said, I think I've delayed the updates, so it probably wouldn't have gone on a suicide mission to download the latest Windows 10 anyway.

I've switched off automatic updates and, since the last feature update was 26 May 2018, I'm feeling smug.  Now all I have to do is remember to update it manually after the guinea pigs have tested it out for me.  That'll probably be when Micro$soft announces the next update.

Another method is to tell your machine you are using a metered connection.   ;)

Very true.  :-X

I've started using Linux Mint in preparation for my windows 7 pc packing in. It looks a bit dated and I haven't really got my head around it yet, but it's up and running and doesn't update when it wants to

That seems a good result!   :D  I foresee someone inventing a new OS and MS disappearing.  It can't go on screwing up people's computers.
