Broadband has landed - at last!
« on: June 26, 2003, 13:41 »
Hi all,

This is my first post whilst connected via broadband. :wahh:

Very impressed so far - BT removed the DAC's box and put in  new line.

Only problem is they installed BB on the main home line - but I wanted it on my office line - trying to get them to switch it for free at the moment.

Going to do a speed test later - anyone know a good site where it can be done?

A very happy

Great news DJ.

Although there would be no problem for me to get BB, I currently just could not justify the expense.  Although I logon many times a day, I do nothing more than surf the internet and use e-mail, plus (very rarely) download an mp3. My usual daily use is between 3 and 6 hours, so my 56k modem is ample for my current needs.

Having said all that, as a lone parent I only work part-time, but I occasionally do a  bit of buying and selling on Ebay.  I have recently gained access to a whole host of goods at trade cost, so I am currently considering expanding the "Arfur Daley" part of my life.  If I go ahead and it goes well, BB is a distinct possibility. ;)

The good people living in your area need heducating Tony!  I think that having trigger levels is absurd.  BT should just provide the service to everyone.

Any bargains, Dave. :D. The last bargain I bought through Ebay was a chip pan in PRISTINE condition.  I had to put it right out in the bin. The inside was burned black ;D

Great news DJ, like Tony I am green with envy ;)

Yorkshire Gains £1.4m For Broadband

By: MarkJ @ 1:05 PM - Comments () - SendNews HERE / PrintNews HEREThe Yorkshire and the Humber region looks set to benefit from a new £1.4 million broadband cash injection of public sector funds:

The nattily-titled 'Broadband Yorkshire & Humber' - an initiative sponsored by the region's development agency and part-backed by European money - is using the cash to provide training and support for 1800 businesses to hook up to broadband.

With all this cash sloshing around to generate awareness in broadband, BT has agreed to use its own money to DSL-enable 18 exchanges which might not have necessarily been commercially viable for broadband investment.

Most of those exchanges earmarked for investment should come online in November, at which time it's estimated that nine in ten of the region's households - along with some 10,000 businesses - will have access to ADSL.

The Register reports that the exchanges to be enabled are as follows:

Humber - Cleethorpes, Grimsby, Barton-upon-Humber

South Yorkshire - Rawmarsh, Thrybergh, Thorne, Bentley and Askern

West Yorkshire - Steeton Cullingworth, Burley in Wharfedale, Addingham and Thornton

North Yorkshire - Pickering, Bedale, Great Ayton, Old Catterick and Catterick Camp
