Wow, never knew that.  When I was working for the bank, we used to use isopropyl alcohol to clean the heads on the MICR reader machines, which automatically sorted the cheques.  A whiff of that certainly woke you up in the mornings!

The isopropyl alcohol is safe enough as it's widely used in the food industry.  It's the microparticles of carbon that do the damage.
