Topic: Gigabyte is hailing you!!!

There is a message coming up on one of my other PC's with a dog and a cat on the screen that says "Gigabyte is hailing you!! GIGABYTE TECHNOLOGY. The computer won't boot up at all and even after formatting it still won't work. Any help please.

Hi Dave,  

It seems you have a non destructive BIOS 'virus'.  According to what I have found, you can eliminate it by going into your BIOS (press DELETE key during boot-up), and reset your BIOS to default values, by pressing F6.

The motherboard is a GA-71XE, with BIOS version F3. I don't think I'll risk updating it to version F7 as I don't need the 75GB hard disk access ability, and the above seems to have solved the problem (so far, anyway - powered down & up about six times, and run for a couple of hours only...).

Hi Dave

I've heard of this many times, although I haven't had it myself.  From what I can remember, it is a feature, a sort of Easter Egg (hidden program) and appears if you have not changed your Bios settings for a while.  As Simon says, if you go into the Bios and reset the defaults, it should go away.

most of the easter eggs are hidden in some shareware files, freeware files, internet porn diallers, spyware, warez cracks/serial patches etc... (warez being illegal).

so to be honest dont give ya son too much of a hard time, he was either unlucky to receive it from a legitimate program or hes been a naughty boy on warez and/or porn sites, but i doubt he'll be honest if hes been found out

I reckon they are mostly made by programmers looking for something to do that looks like work to the bosses but is actually fun 8)
