Nice one Muggins, I've only got an XP2400+ although it is running at equivalent to an XP2600+

My first PC was an Intel 486, then I had another 486 but this time with an Evergreen upgrade to make it a little bit faster ... but it wasn't that noticable (that's when I got interested in overclocking ;)) I still have the two 486s plus another 3 of them ... large paper weights ::)

I got an Intel PII 266 (I have two, one being a SCSI) which will act as a server in my new house.

And now I have the PC I built last year, which is an AMD and I will stick with AMD so long as they can still be tinkered with 8) :P I've also built many PCs for other people and all have been AMD

:tony: poor turn out for the poll [I blame New Labour myself for the voter apathy]

Ho yes you sit there expecting plenty replies to YOUR query when YOU'VE got a problem. But when it comes down to a bit of input that you cannot see yourself directly benifiting from...........:tony:

I have been out canvassing and dropping leaflets through doors. Turnout is expected to be low. We may be able to count on a few postal votes though.

:heehee:your not alone there cammy as we all tend to fall for the you need bigger and faster.... sales hype, nay we hype ourselves up, having a slow PC is like admitting you have a small togger to some folk ::)

OK mines a XP2000+ 512KB PC2100, but I'm itching to build a new faster machine. Why do I need a bigger and fast CPU and Memory, it's not a case of need, looking at CPU usage doing my normal thing what I do with my PC it is around 5 to 10%, memory usage ballpark 200KB, it's a case of WANT.

Goodlad Clive, I'll put you forward for an MBE m8 ;)

A friend recently upgraded his 1.8 Intel to a 2.8 Intel and he said the same Cammy,no noticeable difference apart from a few hundred quid less in his wallet :(

I think that unless you change from a slower bus speed to a faster one then any improvement would only be a slight one :o

I have an H P pavilion pentium 3 which I have had for about 3 years. It's never given any real problems except for millenium crashing frequently but then millenium crashes on any pc.
It is 256 ram 40GB hard drive and 1GZ speed. As I am not a techy person I am not upgrading or adding anything as "if it ain't broke don't fix it" is my motto, I will just remain set in my ways ;D

I've always wanted to meet the person who uses Millenium Edition, Lona. ;D Sort of joking, I have a copy but it lasted one hour on my PC. I just couldn't see any benefit from keeping it - it is Windows 98SE with bloatware.

Nah, I like to blame them for everything too, Tony, but I think the hot weather is keeping many from their PCs this weekend. Even the local spammers have gone quiet.

I used Me for two years and I must admit that it was very unreliable. It was a poor day if I didn't get at least 2 undeserved crashes. You are right about the spammers Dave. It's gone eerily quiet. ;D

I am chicken to wipe disk Dave as I would probably muck things up trying to install XP. I'm open to offers of help if anyone wants to do it for me. ;D
