GIF Trouble
«

I'm trying to open a .gif I downloaded, but in both Photoshop and PSP, I get the following error message:
"Could not open 'example.gif' because the file-format module cannot parse the file."
Any ideas?

It's corrupt
or contains a gif format that cannot be read by Photoshop or PSP, which is very unlikely

Hi Simon
Some programs like the Panorama Factory save BMPs and GIFs with 32 bits per pixel but Photoshop and PSP can only parse or interpretive images with 24 bits per pixel
There is a update program (Adobe PhotoDeluxe EPS Parser Update) which may help (or may not)
Again as Adept says the Gif may just be corrupt, try downloading it again

Well, it actually opened in Paint (thanks, Sean
), so I re-saved it as a gif and now it's the background of my new sig!

Sorry Brian, one of us should have posted back to say that we solved the problem over messenger.
It appears that the file had a .gif extension, but was actually a jpg
PSP and Photoshop wouldn't touch the file, but Microsoft Paint locaded without complaint

Thanks for the reply, of course if you save an image file with a different extention there may be problems opening it, the first thing I try is to save the file as a BMP or JPEG and try to open from there with Paint
