I'm using windows 95. Any files I should be checking for that? Fairly old pc and drive.

I have also tried using a drive cleaner. No effect. I guess the cd burner is just on the way out.

Looks like I need to get myself a new one.

You could try getting the latest ASPI drivers.
Uh,  haven't worked with them for a while, but if I remember correctly that could help... do a search on google for ASPI drivers for 95.

Simulated burns work fine.

CD write no good

CD-R faulty, if its a couple of years old could be a faulty laser

try in another PC if possiable, and then buy a new one you can get one for the price of a couple of dozen blank CDs

Yes, you can easily pick up a new CD-RW for under £30 - for example, take a look at this page, from ebuyer.

Useful page. Will buy a new drive when my next pay check is in next week.

Just done a further test of the drive by downloading the diagnostics program BurnInTest. Get the following error message on the cd drive:

CDROM, D:Error while searching for files on data CD/D
CDROM, Path: D:\*.*, Cycle:0, Error Code 21

Don't know if that gives anyone any ideas.
