ntl:freedom
« on: October 07, 2003, 17:39 »
I don't think anyone has ntl apart from hughs sister so I don't know if anyone will be able to help with this, although what I'm trying to do might be standard.

Okay ..... today ntl, blocked internet access until you downloaded their new dialer, they've done something like this before but the new one didn't work so I reverted to the old one, I guess thats why they did it this way this time because you can't used the old one anymore..... anyway I'm going off topic already.

The problem is that the first number it dials doesn't connect but the second number does, so it takes an age to connect, does anyone know where I can delete the first number, so that it just dials the second one?  I've looked everywhere but it seems to be unobtainable.

Can anyone help please  :-\

Can't you just make a DUN connection Michelle and simply insert the number you want?  I have never allowed ISP's to install their own diallers.  Just go into Internet Options and add a new connection.  Make that your default.

Have you tried (in IE) Tools > Internet Options > Connections, and click on all the Properties or Advanced buttons for your dialler?  You might find something in there.  Other than that, perhaps try Control Panel > Modems and see if there's anything in the Properties you can adjust there.

You should be able to find the dial up numbers on the NTL website somewhere.  Is there a 'Member's Area' or something like that, where you can get tech support?

Oh, that's clever of them isn't it?   :'(  I'm sure there must be a way to find it though.

I tried in IE on connections, there is nothing there, and it won't let me into properties?

I hadn't tried modems, but there's nothing there either ???

Thanks though

you are good sandra - but that looks like the first number it dials that won't go through ...... I'll have a look then, and see if there are any more there.

This is on NTLs internet connection page Michelle :

ntlworld free internet dial up
For customers dialling in on an ntl line: 0800 519 0100
For customers dialling in on a BT line: 1263 0800 519 0100

It said something on ISPR about not putting the 1263 number in front but I suppose it depends whether your connecting via a BT line or on NTLs own line  :)
