Topic: Burning DivX to CD

I have some films on my hard drive that are in the DivX or Xvid format.
I usually convert them to mpeg so that they can then be split into small enough files to fit on either 2 or 3 cds as VCD or SVCD.
I recently noticed that some DVD players for the TV are now coming out which will play DivX and Xvid cds.
So what I would like to do is to burn the films in their original format to my cd and save those as a "master" which I will be able to play on the newer DVD players if I ever manage to get one, as the quality is better and I am having some problems with the audio being out of synch after splitting the converted file, on the second part only for some reason.
Nero seems to want to convert them to mpeg and not be able to burn them in the original format  
Does anyone know of anything that will burn as DivX and Xvid ?
I assume that I can save it to CD as an image or possibly as data but I havent tried that yet.
It would be so much simpler if I could just do a straight same format burn :doggie:

Also noticed on http://www.divx-digest.com/articles/cutavi.html if you go down to Fixing Audio Synch header you can find out how to split an avi file without the trauma as I have taking the annoying beginning and endings of my Japanese Animation

I have looked on there before and just had another look at it.
Its all about how to make a DivX file from avi or dvd or vcd etc but nothing seems to say which software to use to burn the finished product to cd

I am not big on joining/editing/converting or anything else on movie files..
I have a LiteOn DVD player that plays the Divx, Xvid, Mpeg4, VCD and DVD's, all I do is burn the Divx/Xvid/Mpeg4 movie to a cd as data (using Nero) and the LiteOn sees the files and just plays em..

Not sure if that answered ya question but thats all I can tell you on that subject  

As for the player.. may i recommend the LiteON PhoMaster LVD-2001.

Thats exactly what I wanted Craig, thanks.
Something in the back of my oveworked brain was saying write it as data but I never found anything to confirm it  
It was after reading a review of the Liteon LVD 2001 and the later 2002 and that got me thinking about doing it

For some reason when I try to burn a DivX film as a data cd it crashes the PC and I get the memory dump thing, any ideas anyone

Not sure if this is any good - found this on another forum, someone was having problems burning an 800Mb data CD:

"You have to change the ISO settings to Mode2/XA which allow you to burn 800MB. The Mode1 has got a 700MB limit. You also have to set the overburn-option on, and in the burning dialog box where you choose the burning speed you also have to change burning method into "disc-at-once".  It works for me with Smartbuy 90+min CD-R on my Teac CD-W540E using Nero 5.5.9.14"

To put a divx onto a CD you just burn it as a mode 1 data disc, no multisession. You'll find that even if you select Mode 2 it will still only allow you to put 700M on the disc as the software knows that it's PC data and so still does it as mode 1 (which has the error correction thats contained within mode 1). IF you are getting problems writing them then it will be down to you writing software being a bit wonky. (If running XP then just try and do a drag and drop of the file onto the drive and try writing using XPs built in writing software).

To put several DivX onto one DVD-R you have to format the disc as (IIRC) UDF 1.02 otherwise the aspect ratios come out incorrectly (as Divx's have a 1:1 DAR built in). A friend of mine was just looking at getting one of these (Ebuyer code 50683) for £86.94 plus delivery.

on the topic of divx, thought i'd have a nosy on the internet.  found a trailer of lotr2 (bit old news now i know) but the quality was much better than i expected. looks like the encoding is coming on leaps and bounds.

Aparently a new version of DixX came out (5.1 I think) which is supposed to be the best ever encoder. It's been called the MP3 of videos

I just tried to burn it again following the information in Simons and Dacks posts but before I get to the point where I can select either mode 1 or 2 and untick the multisession feature it crashes and I get the blue screen with the physical memory dump thing  :'(
This happens as soon as I click on the file when I browse to it in the add file section of Nero and it does the same if I open the folder and drag it across to the window in the data cd part as soon as it hits the nero window  
I am using Nero 6 with all the latest updates from October 1st installed.
The only way I can get that file actually into the nero window without it crashing is if I select MINI DVD from the options, then it says that the file is about 1.4 gig not the 672 mb that its supposed to be
