Windows XP - Web/Restore/AV Problem!!
« on: November 06, 2003, 09:46 »
Hi people!  :D

Ok, here we go:

Windows XP Home.
System boots OK.
When you open IE, it tries to locate the homepage. When it does, IE closes,  and I am presented with the OPEN/SAVE dialog box.
If I somehow manage to get IE open, any link will give the same result.

IE properties have some missing tabs (General/Privacy/Content).

Tried to uninstall IE, seemed OK, have IE6SP1 on disc - seemed to install, but no icons placed.. IE not working now.

No spyware on system.
Tried to install NAV. It gets to the "Configure" stage - only a blank window is shown (instead of the yellow window with a NEXT button).

System Restore doesn't work - gives an error message "Cannot start, restart the PC and try again". If I get it up (sometimes) it is a blank window just like NAV.

Any suggestions!!????

Thanks  :D

I have found in the past that Norton won't install properly, if there is a problem with IE.  What anti-virus propection were you using before, Ket?  Can you not do a virus scan with that?  It looks like you will have to try to repair IE, somehow, before NAV will install, so hopefully the patch that Sandra posted the link to will work, but I suspect there has now been more damage done to IE then the patch can repair.  Maybe this article might help?
