« on: January 01, 2004, 18:31 »

Hi, and

I'm certainly no expert, but the specs seem quite reasonable.  I have always been advised that a separate AGP Graphics Card will outperform most 'on board' graphics, so maybe that's all you need.  I have certainly experianced slow game play before, and a graphics card upgrade certainly helped.

Have you got a mate with a mid to high spec graphics card (e.g. 128Mb 8x AGP) you could perhaps borrow to try in your PC?  Might be worth checking first that your motherboard has an AGP slot, and supports 8x graphics cards.

Shared graphics are just put on a motherboard to make it able to run the OS really, whatcha need is deffo a new GFX card

for < £100 you can get;
a lovely GeForce 4 Ti4200 128Mb
a magnificant ATI Radeon 9600 128Mb
a magestic GeForce Fx5600XT 256Mb
an unholy  Geforce 5200 128Mb

Would be a good idea to look around at prices and always ask before you buy as some cards may look good but when you get home they are worse than a monkey with a crayon  ;D

Not the greatest selection, but some reasonable prices can be found at CCL Computers, and they usually give quite good product info, so even if you don't buy from them, you can get an idea of what's available.
