Door to CD drive
« on: January 03, 2004, 18:29 »
The doorto my CD drive was open and i accidently knocked it, and it would not close with the button, and was stiff to close with my hand. I managed to get it closed but now it will not open.
I feel really stupid, can you advise me what to do ?
Many thanks

Sounds like you've knocked it off it's carriage, PWS.  I'm not sure if there's a way to repair it - it seems there should be, but I'm not going to sit here and advise you to take it to bits!   :o

Funny, I was just going to do exactly that Simon :D

It does sound as if the drive tray has been knocked off its rails :( Your only alternative, if you want to fix the drive, is to take it apart, but be aware that if you do you will probably need to buy a new one afterwards ;) :-\

Shaddup cammy  ;) ;D I've done the same

have you tried the strightened paper clip in that tiny hole on the face of the CD drive [thats what it is there for] I knocked a CD extended drive of its carrage, it was off kilter, straightened it up and shut it [just like you] would not open, did the paper clip thingy which opened it and worked by the button hence forth. Sort of a few full stops missing POD, but I doubt you would be bothered  ;D ;)

SODS LAW, PWS.

Nothing you can do  about it, sh1t happens, and reading this forum over the last week, Sods Law has got you hook-line-and-sinker.

Seriously though, I have done several CD Drives in over the last few years.  Very little you can do about it.  Tony's suggestion is about as positive as you will find.

I gently prized the front of the drawer off, pulled out the disc holder, re-aligned it, clipped the front back on and it opens and closes just fine. i was concerned the drive itself might be damaged but it seems OK. Thanks
