Optical Wireless Mouse Problem
« on: December 26, 2002, 03:11 »
My Big Prezzie was a microsoft wireless optical mouse.  I wish when Bill Gates markets something, he would get the software that goes with it right. I've been sitting here searching the knowledge base to find missing files required to install the thing. There are lots more folks in the same boat according to the news room. I wish there was someone here at this time in the morning to help me. I thought our Sandra (the night owl) ;) might be prowling around just now. I think I will be taking it back to Comet to-morrow. :(. My other presents were wonderful especially my double CD of Neil Diamond

Sorry Lona I had an early night  :o I was in bed shortly after 3-30am.
I saw you log on but had left before you posted anything.
If you can get your cash back see if there are any mice left in Lidl, the Typhoon ones, they come with the cd and its easy to install if you want the extra functions,or works as it is for just normal 2 buttons and scrolling  :-*

Hiya Lona,

The page for downloading the latest MS driver software for your mouse is right here.  Have fun -- it's a big file!   :)

I sat up half the night, Rodders and downloaded the file, only to find it is a copy of the disc that came with the mouse. Microsoft have really screwed up this time as there were lots of posts on their newsforum regarding the software. I would rather get my money back and go for Sandra's suggestion.
To get this one to work I would have to delete msc.dill file from my hard drive and it would mean that an ordinary mouse would not work should I need it at some other time. ???

If you have any problems getting your money back Lona, you should quote the Sale of Goods Act 1979 (amended).  Don't be afraid to be assertive.   ;D

Hi Lona

I opted for a Logitech Dual Optical mouse .. but I still like my cord  ::) This mouse was suggested by Gemini, and I tried hers .. its a lovely mouse, extremely accurate and the software was easily installed. £30 from PC World .... just a suggestion ... I know they do a cordless version of the same mouse at a bit more money

In ten years time, we'll all look back and laugh at the days when mice used to dangle on the end of a wire.   :-[

To be honest with you, I'm very glad that mine dangles from a piece of wire because it keeps falling off my desk.  At least the wire prevents it from smashing to pieces on the floor.   ;D  ;D

I think you could be visiting the wrong kind of websites, Clive.  Just keep your mouse on the desk and we'll all feel a lot more comfortable, ok?   ;D

A cord is also useful if you have kids ... they can't run off with your mouse and hide it  >:D

no bat, they just try to throttle themselves with it instead (and this is from experience).

Excellent plan Dave!  Since my initial ploy of issuing all kids with free plastic bags was completely ruined by the introduction of needless manufacturer's warnings, could I now propose the issue of free mice to all kids?  >:D
