Symantec prepares anti-fraud tool
« on: June 28, 2006, 14:51 »
Symantec is launching a security system designed to protect consumers from phishing, crimeware and online fraud.

Norton Confidential will hit the market in September, and present a "radical new approach" to combating cyber crime, the company said.

Focussing on the point of transaction, the tool scans both the user's PC and the website they are visiting before they log in, make a purchase or submit personal data.

Norton Confidential will warn users if they attempt to visit a known or suspected phishing site, as well as protect from keystroke loggers and programs designed to steal identities.

Symantec claims that attacks on confidential information have risen at an alarming rate in the last 12 months, with 80 per cent of the top 50 malicious software threats now having the capability to expose sensitive data.

To coincide with the launch, the company has also developed a website to help consumers understand today's sophisticated online threats.

The site is packed with practical tips and simple security measures to make shopping or banking online a safer experience.
