HERE is a little article describing a strange failure, based on the bad copying of a substance used in the capacitors .. bad news for a mobo

I read about this story on slashdot a couple of months back.Its due to motherboards being made with capacitors that have an inferior water based electolyte.After a few months, hydrogen gas gradually builds up, and the rubber bung at the top of the capacitor blows off, spraying electolyte everywhere!!.

That doesn't make very encouraging reading does it?  Not only for computers but for virtually all electronic equipment.  Thanks for sharing that with us Lee.
