Why did something make me think of AlphaPhe?   :-\  I wonder if we are going the same way as the cheap dial up ISPs, which offered great deals, then fold in a few months.   :(

To true Simon, not saying this ISP is iffy, but whilst I will accept a 12 month contract, I will only agree to monthly payments being taken. Can you imagine paying 12 months up front, then it folding not long after.

I must admit I was even a bit dubious of trying NDO at first, because I had not heard of them. But apparently it turned out NDO was formed in Jan 2003, when Ision Internet and Net Direct Internet [which was part of the Energis group I think] amalgamated.

My track record with ISP's so far Freeserve three times, 08002GO folded AOl twice, Alpahpe folder Gio internet, 123ISP, Plusnet, BT Midband. I have always run two ISP's at the same time, in case of ISP failure.

Now you may find it hard to beleive, but I had no trouble with Gio's 128K service, mind you just as well as their support is atrocious.

Tony, I don't see an opton monthly payments which sounds a bit iffy to me. I see in your list you were with Plusnet. Was that 56k dial-up or adsl? I'm got adsl with them and had for the last 14 months or so and had no real problems. If there has been the site has been good in the way it lets users know of problems and do not blame EVERYTHING on bt. Telephone help is at local call rate as well.

  nar your a novice compared to the PlusNet Duo over on the ADSL forum  ;D

I'm with Plusnet now Barra on ISDN, but I fell out with em over one of their sales people giving me the wrong info regards ADSL, which cost me, so I went with NDO.

For the story see this thread, I start posting on the second page, fourth post down, based on info I was given by PlusNet. I originally post as "Anonymous" till I was nign on accused of being a ISP mole  ;D. anyway it ended up being a sparing match with Ian Wild from Plusnet, but I let him  of my hook in the end  ::)

That was a very entertaining read, Tony.  Keep us posted as to any further developments.   :D

As for NDO, the person for whom I have just built a new PC is also looking for a new ISP, being currently with PlusNet, but finding the recent price increases less than pleasant to swallow.  I was thinking of recommending NDO, and you have just potentially cemented the deal - thanks!

Hey you know me Simon, I can make a fool of myself, without the help of dumb assed sales persons  ;D

Alright Sandra, before you ask, it was a "bloke"   ::)

Yes I'll keep you posted Simon, regards NDO, shall we say  their " Pre service" has been excellent. Like the bit about "marketing codes"  when I was sparing with the PlusNet Rep, guess how I knew about them   ::) I'm also avaliable for "hostage" negotiations  ;)

Mind you Simon,

NDO have just "restructured" their prices, but I managed to get sorted at £22.99 on a "technicality"  ::) Plus the price is capped, as the Support Director [Sam] reasured everybody, after I pushed the issue of the restructuring exersize.

See NDO support thread here

On the strength of the NDO pricing restructure, PlusNets £24.99 "Easystart" offer is better value with free modem and filters, plus activation, then after 12 months down grade to the £21.99 package.

But if price ain't the be all and end all, I think NDO will be more  customer attentive, because you will most likely be dealing with a lot smaller and a more coesive team.

Ah, well this is slightly different in that this person is only looking for 56K Dial Up at the moment, but I'm hoping to convert them!   ::) ::)  Tight buggers!   ;D ;D

Ah well, NDO's monthly hourly usage on dial up is alot more generous than Plusnets. Anytime unlimited NDO 200 hours, PlusNet 80 guaranteed with 160 max, go over it third time and they force you to upgrade.

You know, I saw somewhere for £4.99 8.00am till 6.00pm 24/7, buggered if I can think where. Just right for folk at home during the day.

Gio, perhaps?  I have little faith in the 'too cheap' ones, following the thing with AlphaPhe, among others.  I would guess it would probably take most of the day to actually get a connection, at £4.99 pcm.   :-\

Nar it wasnt Gio, they are total crap, Oh I think you would get connected alright.

You see Simon, ISP's cannot just buy "ports" from Telco's for their busy times, which for ISP's generally selling into a residential market is evenings, they pay for that port 24/7. So during the day they have ports a plenty stood doing now't, so it is better to get £4.99 out of them than bugger all. Plus restricting it to day time connections, does not add pressure to their ports at busy times.

Just for you Mich, but this one is only Mon to Frid
